So today, I thought I’d dive into one of the aspects that combines both grammar and vocabulary and that can be an extremely useful tool for your DELE C1 writing task: verbos de cambio.

Verbos de cambio are verbs in Spanish that describe a change in state, condition, or identity. They are used to express how someone or something transitions from one state to another.

These verbs can be tricky because they often don’t have a direct translation in English, and their usage depends on the nature of the change.

1. Ponerse

  • Type of change: Temporary or sudden change, often related to physical or emotional states.

3. Hacerse

5. Quedarse

  • Type of change: A change that often implies a loss or a negative consequence, though it can also be neutral. It’s frequently used with physical or emotional states.
